Gaudi, Picasso and Dali
Genius: person highly intelligent/exceptional intellect.
Although it can be very subjective define someone as a genius, it seems obvious that at least 3 left their mark on Barcelona and Catalonia: Gaudi, Picasso and Dali.
Antonio Gaudi died without knowing very clear that he was a genius, his obsession with faith, purity and nature and aided by his patron Mr. Guell became one of the most influential architects of history. The houses for the bourgeoisie, as La Pedrera and Casa Batllo, and especially the Sagrada Familia (Holy Family) to which he devoted his entire life have a place of honor in Barcelona’s highlights.
Pablo Picasso arrived in Barcelona as a child; he went to the Art Academy where his father taught although it was obvious that he did not needed. He discovered his passion and vocation and lived his youth years hobnobbing with the intellectuals before going to Paris. Even being in Paris he continued his relationship with Barcelona which now houses a museum with an extensive collection of his works.
Salvador Dali, Surrealism was personified! Born in Figueras (Northern Catalonia) where he left his legacy as a museum. It is easy to see its disturbing imagination visiting his home in Portlligat (Girona) or in Púbol the castle that he bought to his beloved Gala.
